Ideas for Nordic Christmas treats

Nordic culture has produced different Christmas recipes to our own

Chefs looking to serve their diners more adventurous recipes for pudding over Christmas do not necessarily have to limit themselves to the traditional options.

Author of the Scandinavian Cookbook Trina Hahnemann offered some examples of family recipes drawn from Danish traditions that could be perfect for those looking to serve dishes with a difference.

Indeed, McCormick's resident expert Chef Steve says researching other culinary cultures is one of his key inspirations, as is trying a new food for the first time, which could apply to some of these offerings.

Vanilla Christmas cookies were suggested by Ms Hahnemann in an article for the Guardian, which require vanilla pods rather than essence to be cut and added to cookie dough, which is baked in rings.

Pepparkakor, or pepper cookies, were also recommended, which involve making a dough that can also be used to make a gingerbread house.

These can be cut into festive shapes such as stars, icing can be used to full effect and Ms Hahnemann said they are popular with children.

Do you have any recipes from other countries that could be introduced to a Christmas menu with a seasonal twist?
