Add culinary spices to a crouton salad

Paprika can really set off a salad

Culinary spices can be a great addition to almost any recipe, as they can really bring out the natural flavours of other ingredients.

Indeed, McCormick's resident expert Chef Steve says this is one of his favourite characteristics of herbs and spices, as well as the fact that they are so versatile.

With this in mind, they could be the perfect way to create a really unique salad that will stand out among the crowd for your diners.

In fact, you could even keep the spices the same and mix the menu up by offering it with alternative vegetables on occasion!

For example, chef and patron of Ottolenghi and Nopi in London Yotam Ottolenghi advised the use of cumin and paprika in an avocado and spiced crouton salad in an article for the Guardian.

He suggested adapting it as a summer offering when broad beans, artichokes, cucumbers, spinach and peas come into season, which could keep your guests keen to try it as a starter or vegetarian-friendly light bite.
