Cinnamon sticks come from the inner bark of a tropical evergreen tree.

Uses in the Kitchen
Used in desserts and baking, they also add richness to Moroccan and Indian cuisine. Infuse fresh blackberries with cinnamon sticks, sugar, red wine vinegar, nutmeg and allspice. Remove sticks and use sauce as a delicious accompaniment to lamb, venison or duck.

Origins
Cinnamon was one of the first known spices. The Romans believed Cinnamon's fragrance sacred and burned it at funerals. Because Cinnamon was one of the first spices sought in the 15th Century European explorations, some say it indirectly led to the discovery of America.
